Book Review and Lit Round Up

Book Review

Three Women by Lisa Taddeo

There was so much buzz about this book I suggested it to my book club, which I now regret. To be clear, it's an amazing book and well-written. I was very impressed by the research and prose of the author, but I stopped reading it thirty percent in. Why? It was way too real. Yes, it is nonfiction, however, I'm very familiar with the plight of women and didn't want to be reminded of the challenging realities we face and the psychological gymnastics we do in order to feel OK. TLDR: It's a great book, but not my kind of feel-good read.

To Read

A NYT book review for Bright I Burn by Molly Aitken caught my eye; here's an excerpt: "Inspired by the true story of the first woman condemned as a witch in medieval Ireland, Bright I Burn, by Molly Aitken, features a protagonist as dangerous as she is beguiling." Now, for obvious reasons, I want to read it!

To Listen

I recently discovered that the one and only Meryl Streep narrated the audio book Tom Lake, Ann Patchett's revered novel about family and love. It's now at the top of my to listen list!

AI for writing?

I have a strong opinion on this topic (see video below), but recently a popular literary challenge weighed in. TLDR: They didn't ban using AI in their contest, and the writing industry is in an uproar.

What's your dream!?

While working at Microsoft with two kids and one on the way, this video shares how I pursued my literal dream and wrote my debut novel. Felicia from WISH-TV asked all the right questions!

In this brief 6 minute video, I share:

  • The advantages and drawbacks of AI in the writing world
  • Have you thought about writing a book? I share my tips
  • Why I added controversial topics to a fiction novel
  • Why the title An Audacious Woman?

Thank you so much for cheering me on!
